Each protruding curved crest rail supported on the elegantly shaped splat and curved back rails which continue to form the rear legs, the soft mat seat set within the rectangular frame with 'ice-plate' edge, above plain, beaded aprons and spandrels in front, and plain, shaped aprons on the sides and rear, the legs joined by stepped stretchers and the footrest above a plain, shaped apron

Compare a similar huanghuali lamphanger chair in the collection of Mrs. Chen Mengjia, illustrated by Wang Shixiang in Classical Chinese Furniture: Ming and Early Qing Dynasties, Hong Kong, 1986, p. 76, no. 37. Several other examples of huanghuali lamphanger side chairs of this form have been sold by Christie's, New York, including the pair sold in Important Chinese Furniture: Formerly the Museum of Classical Chinese Furniture Collection; 19 September 1996, lot 74; the pair with high stepped crest rails, sold 26 March 2003, lot 138; and the single example with solid seat, sold 21 September 2004, lot 31.
