A QAJAR GOLD DAMASCENED WATERED STEEL HELMET (KHULA KHUD)
Iran, 19th century
Of typical high domed form with applied upper panel rising to the turned and tapering square section spike, each side with a similar attached plume holder, the adjustable nose-guard fixing to the rim, a shaped mail skirt below, the helmet decorated with overall very elegant scrolling and interlaced arabesques, a band of inscription cartouches around the base, the applied elements with gold damascened floral motifs, the interior of the helmet with red padded cloth liner with applied woven border, generally very good condition
10in. (25.5cm.) high without skirt
