A QAJAR SWORD (KILIJ)
IRAN, 19TH CENTURY
Of typical form with curving single-edged watered steel blade flaring at the point and becoming double-edged, the blade with raised motifs and various gutters, decorated with gold floral damascened arabesques and a gold star and crescent, one side engraved with two medallions with a lion and an inscription, the other side with a long engraved cartouche inscribed with Qur'anic verses, with wood hilt and steel quillons and pommel, areas of corrosion at point and along the spine
