A rare early 19th-Century 4-inch diameter German celestial globe,
GLOBUS COELESTIS ex tabulis celebrimi Astronomi Bode Delineatus a Johan Bern:Bauer Chris:Hein:Kumet fc. made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores laid to the celestial poles, with graduated equatorial and ecliptic, no colures shown, a star chart near the maker's cartouche entitled Mang:Stel: showing the stars to six orders of magnitude, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments, labelled in Latin and delicately hand-coloured, the stars unlabelled, in a stamped brass meridian on a turned and ebonised plinth base -- 22.2cm. (8¾in.) high
