The silvered appearance of these lamp stands is due to the high percentage of tin in the metal alloy, which is frequently visible in the mirrors of the Tang dynasty.

It is unusual to find such lamp stands in bronze as it would appear they are more commonly found in pottery form. It is also rare to find them as a pair.
