The elongated canon of proportions recalls similar sculpture high on the external walls of temples at Khajuraho which were carved with the viewer's perspective in mind. When viewed from the ground, they would not seem unnaturally foreshortened. It is likely that the present figure was also meant to be seen from a distance far below.
