Lots 85-87 and lot 40 are part of an extensive American dinner service from the illustrious English country house, Easton Neston. The service is engraved with the monogram FWS, and was commissioned by Frederick William Sharon (1862-1915). F W. Sharon and his sister, Florence Emily Sharon were heirs to the enormous fortune amassed by their father, William Sharon, who had interests in mining, banking and real estate during the California gold rush. In 1880, Florence Emily Sharon married Col. Sir Thomas George Femor-Hesketh, 7th baronet, and this advantageous marriage secured the English family's languishing fortune. In turn, their son, Thomas (1881-1944) married his step-cousin, Florence Louise Breckenridge Witherspoon, who was the step-daughter of Frederick William Sharon.
