The clasp is carved to the front with a geometric scroll. The reverse is incised with a four-character mark, Qianlong yu shang, translating "Imperial gift from Qianlong", accompanied by the inscription Gu Quan fang Li Gonglin zui seng tu.

The inscription refers to a Gu Quan painting in the style of Li Gonglin's 'Drunken Monk' painting.
Gu Quan was a Qing dynasty artist who served in Emperor Qianlong's court. Li Gonglin (1049-1106) was an admired painter and connoisseur in the Northern Song Dynasty.
