AN AGHKAND SGRAFFITO POTTERY DISH
North Persia, 12th Century
With sloping rim on short central foot, the white slip painted interior incised through to the red body with the large central figure of a stylised bird on a ground of scrolling tendrils, the neck and tail with possible incised inscriptions, the design painted in manganese, green and small areas of yellow, the border with a band of zigzag panels dividing groups of three manganese dots and larger ochre circles, the exterior unglazed, repaired breaks
