AN ENGLISH STEEL-HILTED SMALL-SWORD
Circa 1760-70
With tapering blade of hollow triangular section retaining traces of etched decoration at the forte, the hilt with oval shell and two quillons, the shell and pommel finely pierced and chiselled with foliated scrolls, the knuckle-guard and pommel chiselled in low relief with running foliage, the wooden grip bound with crimped silver ribbon and twisted wire, in black leather scabbard (broken) with engraved steel chape and engraved silver mouth-locket, the latter with frog-hook cast and chased with a female head
