AN UMAYYAD UNGLAZED POTTERY PILGRIM FLASK
Syria or Mesopotamia, 9th Century
Of concave-sided circular form, the tubular spout rising from one side terminating in a slightly flaring mouth, flanked on each side by pronounced loop handles, each side moulded with a design of concentric circles within a narrow band of lozenge motifs and a broader band of interlocking circles enclosing leafy motifs, simple geometric motifs around the exterior, very lightly rubbed
