Lot Essay

Charles Baskerville was a painter best known for his portraits of New York society figures, painting from the early 1900s until the 1980s. In World War II he was the official portrait painter of the Army Air Force. He also painted murals for prominent individuals such as Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney and Douglas Dillon.
