W.R. Valentiner is thought to have considered this drawing to be by Rembrandt. The ship recalls Rembrandt's etching of 1633 The Ship of Fortune (B. 111) and his drawing of Christ in the Storm of 1654-5 (Benesch no. 954), but marine scenes are a rare subject in his work and that of his circle. However, the drawing would seem to be contemporary.
