The drawing may be related to the now destroyed ceiling painted by Le Sueur in 1655 in the alcove of Queen Anne of Austria's bedroom at the Louvre, A. Mérot, Eustache Le Sueur, Paris, 1987, no. 171. The picture was described by Guillet de Saint-Georges as 'Dans l'alcôve il [Le Sueur] a peint plusieurs petits tableaux représentant des sujets de Junon. Celui qu'on voit au plafond de l'alcôve et qui est de forme carrée fait paraître Junon qui commande à Iris d'aller trouver le Sommeil pour lui ordonner de faire paraître en songe l'ombre de Céix à sa femme Alcyone',(Georges Guillet de Saint-Georges, Mémoire historique des ouvrages de M. Le Sueur peintre...lu à l'Académie le samedy 5 aoust 1690.
Of the same composition is a drawing now lost, formerly in the Guichardot and Chennevières collections and described by the latter as 'Junon assise à gauche sur son char porté par des nuages, donnant des ordres à Iris sa messagère. Cinq petites figures d'Amours, jouant sur des nuages, remplissents la droite de cette composition. The Winter Apartments of Queen Anne of Austria were located on the ground floor of the Louvre overlooking the River Seine. They were built from 1653 to 1655 to replace Queen Marie de Medicis' apartments which were installed forty years earlier. Le Sueur decorated two of the new rooms, the bedroom and bathroom.
