FIRST EDITION of this first person narration, written when Hueffer was fifty, recalling his relationship with the novelist and friend who taught him most about writing. "The best summary of what they [Hueffer and Conrad] tried to put into their writing can be found in . . . Ford's Joseph Conrad" (Judd, p. 84). The pencil note states: "Only Christina but there was David Garnett & Borys Conrad there -- Christina first stood up." Harvey A58.
