2° on two sheets joined (720 x 304mm. overall). Black letter, 48 lines, followed by the oath 'God save King James,' with the names of the 34 signers of the proclamation at foot. Large woodcut opening initial. (Light spotting.) Preserved in modern cloth portfolio. Provenance: Loseley (two stamps in left hand margin).

SECOND EDITION OF THIS HISTORIC PROCLAMATION, announcing the accession of the last king of an independent Scotland to the throne of England. Line 5 ends with the word: 'Iames.' The second sheet is in setting 2(a), line 1 having 'Kingdomes, all.' Four settings of the second sheet occur in all three of the 1602 editions. All are dated 24 March and must be considered equally rare. Two other editions, and a French translation, followed in 1603. STC8298.
