Lady Diana Beauclerk, eldest daughter of Charles Spencer, second Duke of Marlborough, was an amateur artist and illustrator. She painted romantic subjects, portraits and mythological and rustic costume scenes, executed in light colour washes. Walpole and Reynolds were among her admirers, and several of her drawings were engraved by Bartolozzi. She worked as an illustrator on two books and designed bas reliefs for Wedgwood.

For another example of the artist's work, see lot 73.
