A GHIORDES PART COTTON DOUBLE ENDED PRAYER RUG
WEST ANATOLIA, FIRST HALF 19TH CENTURY

The steel-blue field with a central angular floral spray flanked at each end with flower-vases and with a floral spray frame, the sea-green spandrels with angular radiating floral sprays, a dark brown cross-panel at each end with cloudband, in a shaded blue border of paired flowerheads linked to serrated leaves between light pistachio-green and ivory angular panelled flowering vine stripes, areas of wear, corroded reds and browns, replaced selvages, slightly ragged ends with slight loss, small reweaves throughout
Approximately 9ft.7in. x 5ft.10in. (291cm. x 178cm.)

Warp: wool, white, Z2S, slightly layered and undulating
Weft: 2 shoots, cotton, pink, Z2S, one shoot undulating, the second more strongly undulating
Pile: wool, Z2S, cotton, white, Z2-4S, symmetrical inclining to the left, H3.2 x V4.3/cm.
Remarks: lazy lines.
