CENTRAL ANATOLIA, MID-19TH CENTURY

The russet mihrab with a central muted polychrome ascending hanging floral pendant beneath a column supported putty-grey floral arch surmounted by a pale yellow arabesque cross-panel, in a deep brown border with angular muted polychrome floral sprays and stylized floral guard stripes, rewoven ends, area of repair throughout, low even wear, reselvaged
Approximately 5ft.11in. x 4ft. (180cm. x 122cm.)

Warp: white wool Z2S, slightly depressed, undulating
Weft: for the most part 2 shoots white, yellow, light brown, brown or ivory wool, Z1, sometimes Z2 in the second shoot, one undulating, the other more so; at times a single shoot of ivory wool Z2 slightly undulating
Pile: wool Z1, symmetrical inclining to the left, H3.1 x V3.5/cm.
Sides: additional wool yarn yellow, brown and ivory Z2S flatwoven around two additional warps, the main weft running around the first of these
Remarks: lazy lines
