Circa 1800, perhaps Swansea

The central arms with lion supporters within a flower and foliage wreath surrounded by scattered flowers, the borders with grisaille urns and specimen pink roses within shaped gilt feuilles-de-choux rims (restored rim chips), one with impressed potter's mark of a lozenge

Lot Essay

The arms are those of an unidentified French or Flemish Duke

Cf. a similar armorial plate in the Victoria and Albert Museum from the J.H. Fitzhenry Collection (C.604-1906) with a similar impressed mark and there ascribed to Swansea. A pair of deep dishes from this service was offered in these Rooms on 4 June 1979, lot 148
