A PAIR OF LOUIS-PHILIPPE ORMOLU TWIN-BRANCH CANDELABRA
One with an infant satyr with foliate headdress and vine collar sitting on a trunk, the other with a scantily draped campanion with grapes and vine headdress seated on a rock, both infants issuing scrolled foliate and vine branches with stiff-leaf drip-pans and berried foliate nozzles, the naturalistic rockwork circular base above a beaded collar and stepped plinth

Lot Essay

Whilst the design for the female figure can be attributed to Louis-Felix de Larue, that of the infant satyr is after a design by Claude-Michel Clodion, (H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel, et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, München, 1986, vol.I, pl. XXVIII.
A pair of candelebra of identical model was sold anonymously at Sotheby's New York, 17 November 1986, lot 114.
