A 32-BORE TURKISH MIQUELET-LOCK RIFLE WITH SILVER-GILT MOUNTS

EARLY 19TH CENTURY

With earlier etched twist sighted barrel with raised rib over nearly its entire length and rifled with seven grooves, single aperture standing back-sight, and decorated at the breech and shaped chiselled muzzle with gold-damascened scrollwork and foliage, gold-damascened lock, wooden full stock entirely covered with silver-gilt sheet chased with scrollwork (minor losses and repairs), the panels around the lock set with numerous pieces of fluted coral (some replaced) within filigree borders, wooden butt of swelling faceted section covered with red velvet and set with silver panels chased with bold designs of scrollwork and involving an Arabic cypher, twenty pierced silver-gilt barrel bands, silver-gilt sling swivels, gold-damascened button trigger, and original iron ramrod with turned tip (some wear overall)
