The first with rebrowned twist sighted barrels, reblued hinged breech-cover engraved with foliage and signed 'Fusil Robert Par Hanquet ainé et C.e à Liège' within an oval, engraved release-catch held by a spring in the comb of the butt, walnut half-stock, chequered grip, reblued iron mounts engraved with foliage including trigger-guard open on one side, and iron sling swivels; the second with blued octagonal sighted rifled barrel, blued cylinder engraved with foliage, frame and scrolled trigger-guard en suite, and figured walnut butt with iron butt-plate (iron parts refinished), Liège proof mark

Lot Essay

Robert's patent dates from 1831, with additions in 1832 and 1835. It was one of the first hammerless breech-loading systems
