2° (300 x 204mm). Engraved frontispiece with portrait of Carlo Emanuello de Savoy, title with portrait of Tasso and 20 plates by Castello, woodcut headpieces. (Frontispiece partly detached from stitching.) Late 17th-century French speckled calf, spine in seven compartments with raised bands, covers with the gilt arms of Jacques-Nicolas Colbert, archbishop of Rouen or Colbert de Croissy, bishop of Montpellier [fer not in Olivier].
The text and commentary follow the edition published by Bartoli in Genoa in 1590, also illustrated by Castello, however the new set of illustrations is quite different from the earlier edition. Brunet V-666; Raccolta Tassiana 198; Cicognara I,1113.
