2° (403 x 260mm). Title in red and black with large engraved vignette. (Small tear in title.) Contemporary red morocco gilt bound for JACQUES-AUGUSTE DE THOU, covers blocked with his arms and those of his second wife, Gasparde de La Chastre [Olivier 216.fer 7], the spine in seven compartments with raised bands, lettered in two, the others blocked seven times with de Thou's IAGG monogram [Olivier 216.fer 9], g.e., (foot of spine slightly chipped, corners a trifle scuffed). Provenance: De Thou (1553-1617, binding); W.H.R.Jeudwine (booklabel, sale: Bloomsbury 19 May 1987 lot 103). A FINE EXAMPLE OF A LATER 'DE THOU' BINDING.
