Lot Essay

The fashion for furnishing bedroom apartments with Oriental lacquer had been popular since the 17th century and was generally accompanied by a display of porcelain. This cabinet, with fret-railed stand corresponding to eighteenth-century Chinese tea-table patterns, is likely to have been among the furniture inherited by John Wynne in 1788 from the earlier house at Coed Coch, Denbighshire.
