Circa 1738, the contemporary mounts most probably Augsburg
The scroll handle with a spray of indianische Blumen and gilt foliage terminal, the body painted by Bonaventura Gottlieb Häuer with a continuous harbour landscape with junks, ships and merchants on horseback, with dogs and among barrels, a rocky outcrop to the foreground with coconut palms between bands of gilt Laub-und-bandelwerk enclosing cruciform flowerheads, the contemporary German silver-gilt cover chased with strapwork on seeded grounds, the central medallion with a putto beside a jardinière, the thumbpiece with a shell motif within foliage scrolls, blue crossed swords mark
