William Orme worked up the drawings of other artists for engraving. For example, in 1805 a book was published containing two parts called A Brief History of Ancient and Modern India, from the earliest period of Antiquity to the Termination of the Mahratta War, 'the whole edited and engraved under the direction of Edward Orme'.
The first part of the book contains '24 Views of Hindostan drawn by Mr. [Thomas] Daniell and Col. [F.S.] Ward, now in the possession of Richard Chase Esq. (late Mayor of Madras)'. The present watercolour 'View of Mount St. Thomas' is Orme's replication of Ward's work of the same title.
The second part of the book contains coloured engravings of James Hunter's works. The work 'South East Angle of Osar', however, is fairly likely to be from the hand of W. Orme since, given his involvement in the book, he was familiar with Hunter's works as well as practised in replicating the artists in Part I of the book. The work 'South East Angle' of Osar differs from Hunter's original work in that a few brahmini bulls are missing from the right hand side of the path and that the scene of the left hand side is terminated, omitting three native men and a portion of the bathing pool.
