Lot Essay

In 1900 Lautrec decided to spend the winter in Bordeaux, rather than Paris, when he probably made this print after seeing Jacques Offenbach's La Belle Hélène in December. He wrote to Joyant on 6 December 'I am working hard...we are all delighted with the production of La Belle Hélène at the theatre here, it is marvellous.'
