A George II gold and enamel pill-box converted from a watch-case
the enamel Blois, circa 1650, the mounts English circa 1750
Of compressed spherical form, the cover with an enamel miniature of a gentleman with full-bottomed brown wig in blue cloak and lace cravat, the base painted with two amorini arming Venus with a quiver and an arrow, the sides with six cartouches painted with landscapes alternating with putto masks, the interior of the base painted with an enamel miniature of a gentleman with black hair and moustache wearing a yellow doublet with gold-embroidered slashed sleeves and lawn collar, red bows at the shoulders, the hinge loose
1 7/8in. (48mm.) diam.
