a paestan stemless cup, attributed to Python
4th Century B.C.
The exterior black glazed, laurel band with white berries running around lip, interior with incised ivy wreath containing central scene: young Dionysos decked in ivy wreath and ornaments, standing naked with mantle draped over left forearm and held in right hand along with thyrsos, phiale in his left hand, turning to satyr, bending towards him, his right leg raised and resting on a floral ornament, the satyr also holding thyrsos and wearing ornaments, an ovolo band below scene with upturned palmette below it, stylized foliate ornament in the field, added white for ivy berries, thyrsoi, ornaments, and added red for thyrsos garland, (intact)
