A South Italian terracotta of a Nereid riding on a hippocamp
Early 4th Century B.C.
The animal with coiled scaly tail galloping over the sea with waves curling below, the maiden wearing a chiton and himation draped over her head, sitting with left arm clutching the animal's neck, her right holding her flowing mantle, traces of blue and pink colouring, circular vent at back, forelegs of hippocamp repaired
