The glazed circular enamelled dial with both Roman numerals and Arabic chapters signed FOL FILS, surmounted by a laurel-wreathed urn with Greek-key collar above an arched breakfront cornice, the sides with confronting C-scrolls hung with husk swags, above a glazed panel with channelled border, flanked by pierced foliate sides, above an acanthus spray, with pendulum, the movement signed Fol le Fils A Paris

Lot Essay

Fol Fils was troisième valet de chambre du roi between 1777 and 1784 and horloger du roi de Pologne in 1786.

A cartel clock with identical case was sold anonymously, Sotheby's Monaco, 18 June 1994, lot 72.
