The eau-de-nil field with overall design of scrolling vines issuing various polychrome flowerheads and leafy sprays, inner ivory frame border of large serrated leaves and rosettes in each corner, in a broad lozenge lattice border containing cruciform motifs and serrated lozenges between minor stripes, localised colour-run and water staining

Lot Essay

The Pontremoli workshop at 11 Spring Street, Paddington, London, started 1908 - 10 under the ownership of Mr. Pontremoli. Pontremoli carpets are based on designs by Haines and further Queen Anne designs copied from the Victoria and Albert Museum by young girls. The workshop ceased weaving carpets in the late 1930s.
