Lot Essay
This form of Louis XVI 'cabriolet' chair, with Grecian medallioned back and seat, was adopted in the 1770s by the Berkeley Square cabinet-maker John Linnell (d. 1796) for the Gobelins-tapestry chairs supplied to Robert Child (d. 1782) for Osterley Park, Middlesex (H. Hayward and P. Kirkham, William and John Linnell, London, 1980, fig. 92).
