Some thirty pieces of this service are known of which more than half have appeared for sale at Christie's. Alone of the major products of Urbino the subject matter is landscape without the usual 'istoriato' narrative element. The treatment of the landscape is idiosyncratic, with thatched buildings suggestive of Northern Europe.

For the most recent discussion on this service, with a checklist of the known examples see Julia E. Poole, op. cit. (1995), pp. 369-371, no. 407.

Examples from this service were sold in these Rooms on 8 April 1974, lot 195 and at Sotheby's on 3 November 1970, lot 59 and 30 October 1973, lot 155.
