Messrs. A Hepplewhite & Co's, The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788, illustrates a pier-glass with Jove's eagle and flanking urns, but this pattern with columnettes, foliate frieze and sphere-bearing eagle dates from the following decade. A related cresting features on a mirror attributed to a New York craftsman illustrated in H. Schiffer, The Mirror Book, Exton, 1983, p.210, no.549.
