A YAMATO KATANA WITH KOSHIRAE
Mumei, 14th Century
The blade honzukuri, iorimune with small point (ko-gissaki), very slight torii-zori, forging pattern large mokume, tempered edge chu-suguha with ko-maru boshi, tang o-suriage, with two holes, one plugged, 60.8cm; encased in black lacquer saya decorated with sprinkled turquoise coloured inlays, cotton bound tsuka with menuki of tassled bag and gilt brass fuchi carved with bamboo, signed Yoshimasa and a square iron Shoami tsuba carved with a waterfall, signed Shoami Kanenori, (kashira missing, parts of saya with small chips, tsuka needs rewrapping), the scabbard 19th Century, the tsuba, 18th Century

This appears to have been a much shortened early tachi blade.
