A SHIN-SHINTO WAKIZASHI WITH HANDACHI KOSHIRAE
Mei: Bizen no suke Munetsugu and dated Kaei gannen (1848), hachigatsu bi
The blade honzukuri, iorimune, with o-gissaki, slight torii-zori, forged with tight itame and some masame, tempered edge o-gunome midare-ha with bright nie and chikei, tobiyaki, kaeri-fukashi-boshi, tang ubu, Musashi school, 49.9cm.; encased in brown and gold lacquer saya imitating cherry bark, the blue cotton hilt wrapped over gold brocade, with shakudo menuki of dragon entwined on a ken, with kabuto gane, semegane, kirikata, uragawara, koiguchi of shakudo nanako and gilt en suite imitating the brocade of the hilt, and a plain shibuichi tsuba, (no kozuka), 19th Century
