The first mei: Tsunetsugu, 14th Century, the second mumei, 11th Century
The first blade honzukuri, iorimune with chu-gissaki, shallow koshi-zori, forging pattern obscured, tempered edge choji midare and suguha, maru-boshi, tang machi-okuri with three holes, (some hammer marks to the surface), 74.7cm. in saya (hilt missing); and the second blade honzukuri, iorimune with chu-gissaki, slender Heian shape with strong koshi-zori, forging pattern obscured, tempered edge irregular notare obscure in places, boshi obscure, tang ubu, 71.5cm., in military scabbard, (hilt missing) (2)

Lot Essay

The second, the elegant blade has unfortunately lost all details of tempering and forging pattern. And it remains to be seen what details are revealed after polishing.
