A SHINTO BLADE IN SILVER HANDACHI MOUNTS
Mei: Shinano no kami Fujiwara Tadakuni, 17th Century
The broad blade honzukuri with deep torii zori and chu-gissaki, iorumune with wide full length groove to both sides, forging pattern ko-itame, tempered edge sugu-ko-gunome of nie with ashi, midare boshi, tang ubu with two holes, 66.8cm.; in an aogai lacquer saya, the hilt of tachi form covered with silver plates chiselled with karakusa and silver fukurin with geometric pattern, the gilt mon menuki on a dogane, gilt tawara byo formed as cherry blossoms, matching silver koiguchi, kurikata, seme and kojiri all with a similar geometric pattern, iron tsuba formed as overlapping leaves
