A Persian all-steel kard, and a dagger of kindjal form
Both 19th century, the second possibly Russian
The first with finely watered single-edged blade decorated on both sides of the forte with panels of gold-damascened scrolling foliage, chiselled along the back and signed 'Muhammed Wa Ali' in Arabic script, hollow watered steel hilt of characteristic form chiselled with raised lines and shaped panels the latter retaining traces of gold-damascened decoration, the interior fitted for implements (missing), and separate pommel-cap chiselled with a lion and retained by a screw with finial pierced with the signature 'the work of Khayn Ali' in Arabic script; the second with double-edged blade decorated with gold and silver damascening, the ivory hilt (damaged) carved in relief with rococo ornament involving birds, animals, a flaming heart, and a unicorn, in velvet-covered wooden scabbard with engraved silver mounts
