A Spanish rapier
18th Century
The slender blade with central fuller on each face of the forte stamped 'Iohannes Coll Solingen' followed by 'S' repeated, the iron hilt comprising a boat-shaped shell its forward end drawn out to form a knuckle-guard pierced with a heart at its base, straight quillons decorated with mouldings and with button terminals (arm broken), moulded globular pommel, and wire-bound wooden grip
