A George III ormolu-mounted ebonised quarter chiming automaton bracket clock for the Chinese market
Unsigned, first quarter 18th Century
The case with a pagoda top supported on pillars and within a balustrade, trailing floral caryatids to the angles and on foliate paw feet, foliate cast serpentine glazed bezel to the white enamel chapter disc with pierced brass hands and blued steel sweep centre seconds, florally painted spandrels, the arch with an automaton scene of Chinese figures passing through a wooded landscape with a waterfall in the background simulated by revolving glass rods, the five pillar triple chain fusee movement with original verge escapement chiming on eight bells with hour strike on further bell, foliate engraved backplate and similarly engraved securing brackets to the case
