Thos. Hill. Fleet Street London, first quarter 18th Century
The well proportioned case with heavily moulded breakarch top surmounted by a handle and two large rectangular pads, glazed sides and on block feet, the dial signed Thos. Hill. Fleet Street London on a silvered sector in the arch flanked by subsidiary silvered rings for pendulum regulation and strike/silent, the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with blued steel hands, matted centre with mock pendulum and calendar apertures, foliate spandrels, the five pillar twin fusee (wire lines) movement with original verge escapement with pendulum on a steel spring suspended from a foliate engraved rise-and-fall cross-arm, similarly signed foliate engraved backplate with movement securing brackets to the case
