This bergère is recorded in a photograph of the Drawing-Room at Sir Philip Sassoon's London house, 25 Park Lane, circa 1920, as well as in E. Shepherd's painting of The Drawing Room at Park Lane. A celebrated connoisseur, Sasson was largely responsible for the influential loan exhibition, Three French Reigns, which featured several of the greatest pieces of French furniture and objets d'art in English collections, displayed at his house in Park Lane from 21-25 April 1933. Subsequently inherited by his sister Sybil, Marchioness of Cholmondeley, some of Sir Philip's collection was sold by the Marquess of Cholmondeley in these Rooms, Works of Art from Houghton, 8 December 1994. A closely related pair of bergeres with 18th Century tapestry covering was sold in that sale, lot 34.
