Lot Essay

Though Morassi and Pallucchini believe the subject to represent the Suicide of Aiace Telamonio Rizzi favors the representation of the Death of Giacinto. Morassi dates this work to circa 1720, before the mythologies in the Accademia, Venice, and falling somewhere between such works as the Probatica Piscina in the Accademia, dated around 1720's, and the more sensuous mature works such as the Venere all Specchio in the Gerli, datable circa 1725.
