A WOOL ON LINEN NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, American or Canadian, dated 1840, worked in red, green, yellow, pink and ivory wool threads in a variety of stitches with a sawtooth border enclosing a field with white and red rose vines flanking the wrought verse: "the falls of Niagra Beyond the deep atlantic waves those fair but faded flowers grew where dead niagra falls and waves and ships the port of morning dew the parent root that gave them birth still beautiful the distant earth 840 Margaret Anne Shirmer" all above Georgian house flanked by trees, animals and flowers--17in. x 16½in.
