JIAQING IRON-RED SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE ON THE BASE AND OF THE PERIOD

Of rounded spade shape, painted with a continuous river landscape scene with 'one hundred boys' at a festival carrying animal and fish puppets, lanterns, firecrackers, cymbals and drums near a pavilion below iron-red scrolling on a lime-green band at the neck, some minor faults and wear

Lot Essay

It is rare to find a Jiaqing-marked enamel bottle. In the National Palace Museum, Taipei, while there appears to be quite a large number of Qianlong and Yongzheng-marked enamel examples, and even a few Kangxi-marked enamel bottles, there only appears to be one bearing a Jiaqing mark. It depicts European children at play in a Chinese landscape watched by European ladies. See Snuff Bottles in the Collection of The National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1991, p. 85, pl. 17.
