A FOUR CASE LACQUER INRO
EDO-MEIJI PERIOD (19TH CENTURY), SIGNED HARUYOSHI

Of oval section decorated on one side with a double gourd wine vessel and maple branches and on the other with an axe and cherry blossoms set on a gold and brown ground with a fluted surface simulating the piled-up trunks of trees, rendered in iro-e takamaki-e, uchikomi and kirigane, the ends of the inro decorated with gold circles simulating the cross-sected tree trunks, the interior cases nashiji; fitted with an ivory netsuke carved in the form of a rabbit, signed Mitsuhiro and a coral bead ojime--3 1/8in. (7.8cm.) high
